Félicien Cauwel, gendarme, died for the fatherland, deported on 30-5-1943 to the torture camp of Breendonck, shot in the head on 30-11-1943.
Félicien Cauwel was born in Nederboelare in 1885 and was executed by the Germans at the age of 58 in the Breendonk camp, after being arrested as a hostage 6 months earlier. He was a constable in Nederboelare and lived at the beginning of the avenue du château. He is buried at the National Shooting Range of Schaerbeek, in the honor field of the executed. In addition to this monument, the Felicien Cauwelstraat in Nederboelare has also been named in his honor.
