At Castle Den Brandt, with beautifully landscaped French front garden, we cross Beukenlaan and walk into Middelheim Park. This park is known for its stunning collection of sculptures by both domestic and international artists. Everything is outdoors and free to access. The collection is continuously growing.
“In 1950, the first sculpture exhibition was held in the park. It was such a success that the city council decided to make it a permanent exhibition,” Alex explains. “This is how the Middelheim Museum came into being. Now you can find top works from Vic Gentils, Rik Wouters, and Panamarenko to Erwin Wurm, Auguste Rodin, and Ai Weiwei.”
If the weather doesn't cooperate, you can visit the Braempavilion for a separate exhibition. In the fairly new collection pavilion further on, you can discover pieces from the Middelheim Museum's depot.
