A Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), along the Molenweg in Niel-bij-As, was given the name 'Thick Pine'. The pine has a trunk circumference of 317 cm (measurement taken in 2012) and is one of the tallest, thickest and oldest of its kind in this region. The pine is located along a footpath that connects the Oude Molenweg with the Smispoelstraat and was once planted as a corner tree to mark cadastral boundaries. Due to its current size and beautiful representative growth form, it is an iconic element.
