This anchorage extends over the territory of the municipalities of Brakel and Schorisse. It includes the source heads of three parallel streams, the Vaanbuikbeek, the Roosmeersbeek and the Slijpkotbeek. These are all tributaries of the Zwalm, the latter runs a little more eastwards. The hilly nature of this area is caused by the strong erosion effect of numerous small watercourses. Between the valleys, which are oriented west-eastwards, there are high coulters. From the higher areas one has a wide view, while in the depressions the landscape is very closed. This area belongs hydrographically to the Zwalm, which flows into the Scheldt. The other side of the watershed hill in the west of the anchorage is drained directly into the Scheldt via the Maarkebeek.
