Monument and cross located at the top of the verge of a hollow road in a hedged bed with weeping willow, accessible by a wooden staircase. On 12 August 1914, the German cavalry carried out heavy charges at this location on the nearby farm "IJzerwinning" where the centre of the Belgian position was located. The cyclists or Black Devils fired at the Germans in the hollow road. Black Devils is a name given by the Germans to the cyclists who defended Halen "Schwarze Teufel". The Black Devils have suffered heavy losses here. The memorial was inaugurated on 15 May 1976 and was erected under the impetus of Jozef Stroobants and the 1st Regiment of Cyclists on a piece of land belonging to the Stroobants family, inspirers of the museum "Battle of the Silver Helmets". The "European Cross" was erected during the 75th anniversary in 1989 as a tribute to all the fallen together with the planting of the weeping willow.
