In October 2003, the municipality of Herne inaugurated a Carthusian statue. One of the reasons for this was the heart of Duchess Margaret of York, which was buried 500 years ago in the former Carthusian monastery of Herne. The bluestone sculpture is by Roger Schrije. It depicts 2 Carthusians, facing each other and with a globe in between. The latter is surrounded by a metal band in which stars are elaborated. These refer to the founder of the Carthusian Order, Saint Bruno and his 6 companions.
