Previously Grote School, later oratorian school and monastery. In 1448, the adjacent buildings Wollemarkt-Schoolstraat were purchased by the city for the establishment of a public city school, called "Grote School". Buildings in 1630 were handed over to the congregation of the Orators (order founded in 1624 in Scherpenheuvel), who took over education in Latin and also from 1645 the ministry of the St. John's parish. Construction of a bridge over the Melaan, called "Orators Bridge", as a connection between the monastery and St. John's Church.
