The modest-looking Mark has a total length of 76 kilometers. When the river plunges further into the Volkerak in the Netherlands, it is already a real, wide stream. The valley of the Mark is highly regarded by bird lovers. Specialists say that it is home to both meadow and forest birds. With a bit of luck (and in the right season) you will see curlews, orioles, buzzards, tree falcons and oystercatchers. Plant lovers will also get their money's worth. Marsh marigold, yellow iris, cuckoo flower and wood anemone are just a few of the species found here.
