The Dutchman Ferdinand Lousberg invested in the textile industry in Ghent and became a very wealthy man in the second half of the 18th century. He was one of the first to install steam engines in his factories. He commissioned the creation of this building to provide accommodation for his workers. He believed that his workers should be able to 'breathe', hence the high spaces and abundant light, which are typical features of brick architecture.
After WWII, it became an elderly care home.
In 1999, the building was purchased to be converted into office and living space with beautiful lofts.
