The Charleroi City Hall, inaugurated in 1936, is a classic monumental building, with Art Deco accents thanks to its geometric lines and its play of materials: red and black marble, bronze, brass, wrought iron. The interior is decorated with numerous statues that aim to exalt the triumph of the city, its prosperity and its industrial wealth. Only the municipal council chamber contains a pictorial work in seven panels, to which seven stained-glass windows bearing the coat of arms of the cantons of the district of Charleroi respond. A masterpiece of civil architecture, the town hall has its belfry inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Listed monument by Ministerial Decree of the Walloon Region (09-09-2001). Included on the list of the P. E. of Wallonia. Belfry inscribed on the World Heritage List (December 1999).
