Castle Beisbroek is a Belgian nineteenth-century castle in Sint-Andries, part of Bruges, in the domain of the same name. The building houses a nature center, a planetarium, and the public observatory. The domain can already be found in sources from the 7th century and belonged to the Merovingian crown domain of Snellegem. In the 9th century, it passed to Count of Flanders Baldwin I. In 1115, it came into the possession of the Saint Andrew Abbey. A description from 1678 indicates that there were only five small farms present on the domain. One of those farms is Leghuut or Leghuyt, of which the Leghuutput, an old livestock watering hole, and parts of what was once a 2 km long rampart still remain in the domain. In 1798, the entire domain came into the hands of the De Nieulant et de Pottelsberghe family through a public sale. Edouard de Nieulant built Beisbroekkasteel there in 1835 and arranged the surrounding park. The castle passed to the son-in-law Adolphe Otto de Mentock, who also succeeded his father-in-law Edouard de Nieulant as mayor of Sint-Andries. Later residents were heirs of the Otto de Mentock and Busschere families. In 1973, the city purchased the 98 ha domain from the latter family and made it a public city domain with a nature center in 1976. In 1985, the public observatory also became active there.
