To this day, you can still see traces in the landscape that are silent witnesses to the rich and tumultuous past of the Abbey. The activities of the monks of Affligem Abbey had a major impact on the landscape around the Abbey. The large expanse of coal forest gave way to a more varied landscape with forests, meadows, fields and standard orchards. They were bordered by rows of trees, wooden edges, hedges and hedges. The monks created fish ponds, hop fields and vineyards. They quarried sandstone quarries for the construction of churches, abbeys, farms, water and windmills. Imposing avenues lead to Moorsel, Aalst and Asse. Traces of that fascinating history can still be found in the landscape today
