In present-day Hoegaarden you come to numerous hamlets: Nerm, Elst, Aalst, Rommersom, Klein Overlaar, Hauthem, Hoksem, Gaat, Babelom,... The geographical location with the watercourses, roads, hills and valleys in the rich Haspengouw lands with arable lands and meadows gave rise to various villages, hamlets and districts.
According to the booklet "Geschiedenis van Hoegaarden" by J. Vander Velpen, there is no municipality in Brabant or Haspengouw with so many important hamlets. In 1489 Hoegaarden had 12 hamlets. Schoor and Couwenberghe used to be hamlets of Hoegaarden. Today they are no longer inhabited places on the stream beyond Aalst. Before the merger, Ast (Goetsenhoven), Klein- and Groot Overlaar (plain on the left bank of the Gete), Elst (with the chapel of O.-L.-V.-ten-Troost), Rommersom, Hauthem, Nerm and Aalst (hamlets on the Nermbeek) were already part of Hoegaarden. Hoksem, formerly part of Kumtich, was merged into the municipality of Hoegaarden after the merger.
Egypt is a neighborhood on the Beek, probably a camping place of gypsies who were supposed to come from Egypt.
