Paradise of Horses Street has a link to the mining past of this place. Workhorses were used in the mines. As foals, they were brought down to the coal mine in the cage lift. At the end of their lives, when they could no longer work, they were hoisted back up. They spent their last days here near this street. Their eyes were usually blind from years of confinement underground.
