This slate quarry was excavated on the right slope of the Semois valley, downhill from the village of Rochehaut and opposite Frahan, at the level of the rocky mass known as 'La Roche des Corbeaux'. The steep, wooded slope shows several flats, numerous walls and retaining walls, and abundant spoil heaps. Three entrances to galleries are tiered along the slope. To the north lies the still more or less open area of the scree, the lower part of which, the most frequented by walkers, is less colonized by woody plants and remains well sunlit. The underground quarry (SGIB 628) has significant chiropterological interest. The steep and wooded slope is particularly rich in ferns.
Public Access: Free access but underground network closed.
Type: Site of Great Biological Interest (SGIB)
