The wood of Providence is located in the north of Hainaut not far from Brugelette, isolated in a hilly landscape that is essentially agricultural. Primarily deciduous, it covers about 260 hectares and is in fact a remnant of a much larger forest massif, which also included the wood of Enghien located 4 km away. The site includes various types of forest vegetation of great interest. The majority habitat consists of beech and Atlantic oak forests rich in bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta). The banks of the spring streams are occupied by riparian galleries featuring a remarkable floral assembly, particularly with the presence of the rare spathe-flowered gagea (Gagea spathacea). This wood is frequented by various species of birds, including the middle spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius), recently established, and the honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus). It also houses several species of forest butterflies that are uncommon at the regional level.
