Centrally located in the hamlet, classicist hall church. Houtem was given its own chapel very early on by the abbey of Ter Kameren, located on the road to Vilvoorde as shown by the Map Book of the Abbey of 1719. In 1775, a new chapel, the present church, was built during the management of Abbess Serafina Snoy, whose coat of arms was preserved above the choir entrance.
