The original chapel was established at the initiative of the local residents and consecrated by Pastor Ernest Lebbe on July 5, 1932. The chapel likely came about due to the significant influence of Flemish or socially Christian associations. A widening of Schoolstraat meant that the chapel had to be removed in 1959. However, they did not sit idly by, and preparations immediately began for the construction of a new chapel designed by Etienne Ducatteeuw. Mgr. Depoorter, the vice-general of the Diocese of Bruges, arranged for its consecration in December 1960.
