The occupied towns suffered from the Allied bombardments. Although the Allies were targeting the German infrastructure, they also hit civilians. On 6 September 1915, Lichtervelde was rocked by a series of explosions. There was heavy damage, also on Beverenstraat, and a number of residents lost their lives.
