In 2011, Natuurpunt (department Wielewaal) together with the core Katelijne inaugurated the Waverwoud: Brede Zeyp, together with some forest complexes in Onze Lieve Vrouw Waver and Sint Katelijne Waver, forms some fragments of what used to be a real Wavre forest. This large forest complex was owned by the Van Wezemael family until about 1470 and was then 300 ha in size. Since there were no heirs, the whole area went to the State which was then under Spanish crown. That is probably why the forests were then called King's Forests. On the Ferraris map, the Brede Zeyp is shown as Bois Den Sype.
