The Wine Press

The Wine Press is a pleasant school with a rich history. It is located close to the city and yet
surrounded by gardens and nature. It is these gardens that we like to immerse ourselves in. Students from
the horticultural education ensure a rich harvest of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and
ornamental trees throughout the year. The Wine Press offers these products for sale and particularly targets a
number of specific groups (see table). But even if you cannot come here to purchase products,
you can still come and enjoy the nature-rich and hilly surroundings. And hilly
is certainly not an exaggeration. It is no coincidence that the Grote Prijs Poeske Scherens – a strong
cycling race – often visits this slope.
The sale of products on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons is well organized by
two enthusiastic employees: Willy and Erik. Together with the students, they each time
provide a refreshing and seasonal offering!
The old Wine Press building is certainly worth a visit. It forms the historical core of
the school where provincial education has been provided for over a century.
Nickname in the Leuven dialect, such as ‘the pès,’ emphasize the rich history. In the
Wine Press building, wine was made in ancient times on behalf of the Abbey of Keizersberg.
The grapes were grown on the steep slopes on-site. If you walk up the Wine Press street
today, you will soon see the gardens and greenhouses where young people from the provincial secondary
education focusing on plants, animals, and the environment can fully express themselves. In addition, you can find programs in biotechnology, sanitary installations, central heating, and visual arts at this school.
