Sand company Velbo, originally called Sand company Benelux, was established in 1957 by Mr. Albert Vanvelthoven and his wife Maria Vanderhoydonckx. Albert was a construction entrepreneur and began sand extraction for personal use. Soon he started supplying his fellow contractors as well. A year later, the demand for sand from third parties became so great that it was decided to exploit at a higher level.
In 1958, he fully switched to sand extraction. At that time, he sold 120 tons of sand per day, today the company sells 1500 tons per day. Over the years, Lommel sand gained more and more recognition and was used throughout the country.
After the name change to Sand company Velbo in 1986, it was decided to refine the sand better. This had become a necessity due to the increasingly strict standards.
The company is currently run by Jaak Vanvelthoven, assisted by his 2 sons Bengt and Arne.
