The geographical centre of Flanders was determined by students of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of Leuven. Using GPS measurements and with the help of the mathematics teacher, the point was determined after about 120 hours of serious work. The centre is exactly in the far corner of East Flanders, a few metres from the territory of Sint-Amands, but still in Opdorp, on the agricultural field of farmer De Keyser. In 2003, a monument was erected at this point. The centre is also only tens of metres from the previously determined "three-province point" (East Flanders, Antwerp and Brabant) in the Biesten.
