Reed meadow

This is the only cross-border, recognized nature reserve in our country. The 80 ha large reserve was established in 1987 and covers the building-free part of the Marke. Recently, almost the entire Markevalley has been designated as a 'Habitats Directive area' (Natura 2000) and part as a 'Quiet area'. A visitors' center has been set up in the barn of the historic St. Antoonhoeve, featuring slide shows and posters.
You can see a varied landscape of pollarded willows, hedges, tree groves, meandering streams, and wetlands. Extensive grazing of certain parcels is carried out by Galloways, a mostly black-coated breed of cattle that originates from the southwest of Scotland. They are large grazers that require little care and are not aggressive.
