Rückschlag is a farmstead near the Monschau district of Konzen in the city region of Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia at about 550 m above sea level. The area, which is only 1.5 hectares in size, is the smallest de jure exclave in Germany and is surrounded by Belgian territory. The exclave was created by the course of the Vennbahn, which is located immediately next to Rückschlag and whose route is Belgian territory. In this context, there are other German exclaves in the urban area of Monschau: Mützenich, Ruitzhof, further north parts of Roetgen and parts of the Lammersdorf district belonging to Simmerath.
