Strooiendorp is a district of Leopoldsburg that is located north of the city center. The name of the district refers to the shabby housing that was in the early years of the nearby Camp of Beverlo, around 1840.
In 1857, 296 hectares of plots were sold here, and in 1870 a new allotment plan was drawn up, in which 496 hectares of heathland were parcelled out according to a checkerboard pattern and sold. Later, the allotment was partly changed and cross streets were added. Until 1914, however, the area was called Kerkhoven, as was the more northerly Lommel church village.
