On May 10, 1909, construction began on a neo-Gothic church designed by the Ghent architect Henri Geirnaert on land donated by the Lebegge family on January 13, 1908. The construction was completed in 1910 and the church was officially consecrated in 1912. After World War I, repairs were carried out in January and May 1919. At the beginning of World War II, the church was again damaged in May 1940 and later restored. Since September 2010, the church has been included in the inventory of architectural heritage of Flanders.
