Duinbergen is a district in the municipality of Knokke-Heist in West Flanders and a well-known seaside resort in Belgium. Unlike Knokke, Duinbergen is characterized by many distinctive villas and few shops. Duinbergen is part of the sub-municipality of Heist. Before 1900, the area between Heist and Knokke was undeveloped. Around 1900, plans were made to give this area a tourist function. The German urban planner and architect Hermann-Josef Stübben was commissioned to shape the Duinbergen concession. For this purpose, two organizations were later established: the Société de Duinbergen in 1901 and the Knocke-Duinbergen-Extensions society.
