The Museum of Curiosities was founded by Antoon Vanneste. It was located at Peperstraat 24 in Heule, and ceased to exist when founder-curator Antoon Vanneste died on 6 November 2001.
The origins of the curio museum date back to 1963, when Antoon, while cleaning out the attic of his home in the Peperstraat, discovered some objects from the inn "Au Lion d'Or", which used to be located in the house. Antoon summoned the "scrap metal marchand", but it took too long to arrive, so he started polishing a few pieces and placing them among his collection of stuffed birds. He liked the result, and one thing led to another. Gradually, one room after another in the house was taken over with new pieces.
