St. Martin's Church Opbrakel

Description

The protected St. Martin's Church is a Romanesque church with Rococo interior and has a tower dating back to the13th century. There are already mentions of the church in archives of the Abbey of Ename in 1098. It is therefore one of the oldest churches in the country and was restored in 1994, which lasted until 2012. The result was so good that the church received the prize for best restoration of 2012. From 1907 to 1921, E.H. Jozef Bal was pastor in Opbrakel. He was the compiler of the first known Dutch encyclopedic dictionary in 1893. (photo: Ingrid Deloose)
