Sportoase Veldstraat

In the swimming and steam bath complex Sportoase Veldstraat there is a beautiful 33 meter pool where you can swim laps! This swimming pool is the oldest surviving swimming pool in Antwerp (1933) and was restored to its former glory in 2006. The architecture is a mixture of modernism and art deco. Via the entrance of the Alfonds Engelsstraat you can choose to visit the bath house or the hammam (18+, bathing clothes compulsory, € 13). If you ask nicely here, you may be able to take a look at the pool from the balcony. At the back of the building (Viséstraat) is "Het Oude bathhuis", now a cultural community center, formerly a place where people from the neighborhood who did not have a shower or bath at home could go for a weekly wash.
