The Schulensmeer visitor centre is located in the vast Schulensbroek, on the largest artificial lake in Flanders. For centuries, the Schulensbroek was one large natural flood plain, flooded several times a year. The fertile soil was interesting for farmers. In the mid-1970s, the Schulensmeer was dug: on the one hand for the construction of the E314, on the other hand as a holding basin to collect excess water. After all, various streams from Flemish Brabant and Limburg come together in this 'Demer Delta'.
