Through this lock, the holding basin is emptied if the level of the Demer allows it. The stream on the other side is the Vloot, which used to run almost diagonally through the lake and formed the border between Schulen and Linkhout. The fleet and also the Demer used to be rich in fish. Linkhout and Schulen still counted professional fishermen and "shipwreckers" very late. Passing (army) gangs and sentries (at what are now called "checkpoints"), were paid with... kilos of fish.
