We are on the banks of a beautiful river in the region, the Woluwe. Like the Senne and the Maelbeek, the Woluwe too is an important waterway that has left its mark on the Brussels landscape. It was more remote than the other waterways and thus difficult to develop from an industrial point of view in the 19th century. To this day, it retains its rural character. Its interesting biotope is now included in the Natura 2000 inventory. It has created some of the typical landscapes of the region - waterways flowing nonchalantly through marshland, all in flood valleys. The name Brussels, whose etymology can be found in the word ‘Bruocsella’ or ‘marsh habitat’, takes on its full meaning here!
