KRC Genk's stadium is the Luminus Arena in Waterschei, named after its sponsor, energy supplier Luminus. Previously, the stadium was called Cristal Arena, Fenix Stadium and Thyl Gheyselinck Stadium. The stadium was officially opened on 28 August 1999 in front of 15,000 supporters. The first season in the new stadium was an immediate success, every game the stadium was filled to the brim with 20,000 people. That is why Genk decided to increase the capacity to around 22,989 places. Afterwards, a third extension was added with an extra seating stand. For example, the stadium was completely closed and there were about 25,000 seats.
