Leona Van Wauwe:

Leona Van Wauwe lived most of her life in Melsele, where she also grew up. She studied at the Municipal Academy of Sint-Niklaas and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Poetry can be heard in her paintings. Colours subtly glide over and through each other, enter into dialogue and confrontation. Whimsical lines translate into jaunty brushstrokes that express freedom, pristineness and brutal sincerity. Her works reflect the nature of the artist. In 2019, on the occasion of her 80th birthday, she appropriately auctioned eighty works of her own hand for charity in Beveren. On that occasion, she donated one of her monumental works, A Magical World, to the municipality of Beveren. Leona Van Wauwe lives and works in Knokke-Heist.
