The Leffe quarry is run by the Swiss company Hilcim. The exploitation of the Leffe quarry is an important economic activity for the Dinant region and for the entire Belgian and foreign industrial sector (about 10,000 trucks per year).
It produces limestone that is used as crushed aggregates and washed crushed sand for the production of ready-mixed concrete and concrete products, in road construction for foundations and underlayments in crushed stone mixtures and for specific applications in the metal industry.
The great quarry of Leffe is often mistakenly called Montorgueil quarry.
In 2015, workers were convicted of stealing 600 tons of gravel.
The access road is through the valley "Fonds de Leffe". The Leffe is a stream that rises in a place called "Grognaux" near the village of Taviet. It plunges into the Meuse immediately downstream of the Abbey of Leffe which crosses it in an underground gallery. The valley is little known but picturesque.
