This moated castle is located in a vast park area of Beveren.
The oldest part of the castle dates back at least to the beginning of the 15th century when the Vijd family from Ghent lived in the castle. The castle was successively inhabited and rebuilt by four different noble families. In 1966, the municipality bought the castle with its park and outbuildings. In the façade above the entrance door is the statue of Saint Martin as a Roman soldier sharing his cloak. This places the castle under his protection. In the castle chapel, a curious medallion on the ceiling depicts Martin as a young man with a sword and moustache.
