Herenterschans

The Herenterschans is located in the valley of the Prinsenloop. The redoubt was founded in 1613.

The following text tells of the devastation that caused the construction of the redoubt:

Anno 1587 den 24 maij worde tot Pelt ende Neerpelt veel husingen affgebrant deur hollantsche ruiters, sterck ses hondert peerde ende seuen hondert voetvolck, among which were two hundred-hundred-musketeers. Daer bleuen van de huijsluijdens door seuen personen ende de hollantsche soldiers worden drij afgescoten ende den (neue) van graue Hollack worden scote die tot Oerscot int wederkeren dieff. Those of Ouerpelt were dredged lancers who had lain for a long time in the church behind the high altaer on ice rows, and those houses were only 100 sterck and most wijcken on the scans.

The ramp has a rectangular shape and contains a front ramp. She was 40a tall. The entire ramp has an area of 76a. Based on the surface area, it can be estimated that this redoubt was the size of about 30 houses. The ramp has a moat that has a width of 8m. The ski jump regulations have been preserved.

The redoubt was still in use until 1821. From this period on, the redoubt masters were deposed by the Dutch. The last tenant was Henri Van Hees in 1820. From 1827 he had to pay 12 guilders until the redoubt was sold. The redoubt then fell into disrepair until it was bought back in 1920 and a farm was built.

In the 1950s, the farm was bought again. Restoration work started in 1991. This restoration was done of the moats of the western half and a wooden bridge. The ramp is still maintained today.
