Saint Arnold's Chapel Tiegem

Sint-Arnoldus van Tiegem was born about 1040. He first became a knight but after his father's death in 1070 he entered as a monk in Soissons where he lived as a hermit. He was sent to Flanders twice as a peacekeeper.

In the 15th century and later, relics were transferred to Tiegem, first to the parish church. It was not until the 19th century that worship shifted to the Holdenbroekbos, quickly renamed Kapellebos. There was a well and a chapel. In 1817 the small St-Arnoud chapel was built that still stands.

Construction of the large chapel and later the pilgrimage site was started in 1860.

Saint Arnold is the patron saint of brewers.
