Forest conversion is being done here in the area around Hemsrode. The areas themselves cannot (yet) be entered, but there are tertiary roads around so that a few things can be seen.
In 2013, the poplar stock was cut down. The valuable undergrowth and young trees were deliberately preserved in order to get an age distribution right from the start. The forest was then planted with species that occur in alluvial forest (alluvial forest is wet forest and therefore vulnerable): black alder, pedunculate oak, sessile oak, hazel, ...
The total area is 4.4 ha.
