This war memorial is located in the courtyard of the Hotel de Ville.
The Altar of the Fatherland in the courtyard of the town hall is the work of the Brussels sculptor Frans Huygelen (1870-1940) and was inaugurated on August 23, 1927 in the presence of Prince Leopold.
This monument pays homage to the 674 executed civilians , the soldiers and deportees of Dinant and the 1200 French soldiers who died during the fighting of August 15th and 23rd, 1914.
