The peephole focuses your gaze on a farmhouse, behind which stretched the immeasurable heath (now highway). After a day on the heath, the painters placed their easels and suitcases there and then walked another 1.5 km to their lodging 'De Keizer'. Heymans painted the farmhouse in 1890 and called it 'The Red House'.
The large painting is by Heymans The corn in Wechelderzande and shows the typical crop for this village, corn instead of wheat. The mocking song from the neighboring villages for the Wechelaar was: 'Wechelderzande, high lands, high barns, but nothing to fire in.' This points to the failed harvests, which were commonplace here because of the poor sandy soil.
