Visitors and passers-by will undeniably come face to face with the imposing, five-aisled St. Martin's Church on the Grote Markt. In the center there is a pleasant bustle with restaurants, cafes and a shopping center.

The name of the church refers to Saint Martin, patron saint and symbol of solidarity and sharing. Sint Maarten is in Beveren's DNA. Everywhere in the streets you will see references to this holy figure.

On November 11, children traditionally went from door to door to sing the St. Martin's song. Residents threw something at them as a reward. That throwing is called grilling in Beveren.
