In the 19th century, strong men carried the felled trees across the water in the fall or spring, when the water was high enough.
The trees floated downstream on the water until they ended up in this "Vanne", the "closure hole" .
This was a storage place for the floating wood of the then lumberjacks.
The lumberjacks of that time were called "Miquelets" .
