The chapel was founded between 1850 and 1874 by the family van Caloen , lords of the manor in Loppem.
In the chapel is a statue of Saint Joseph with the inscription "Thanks H. Jozef two healings 1964".
Saint Joseph ("Saint Joseph") is the patron saint of carpenters and workers in general. He is also the patron saint of Belgium and Canada and is invoked as the patron saint of virgins , religious communities, husbands, the family and the dying.
The expression "Joseph marriage" is derived from the marriage between Joseph and Mary, which the Roman Catholic Church in particular believes never had intercourse (and Mary remained a virgin perpetually). The term is therefore used for a spiritual, non-sexual matrimonial intercourse.
