The lock of Dierendonck is a hydraulic construction built around 1867 that combines a lock and a drainage sluice, allowing for the management of water in two separate water networks, one for navigation and the other for polder administration. The lock connects the upper navigation water network (consisting of the Dunkirk-Newport Canal and the Yser, the Lovaart, and the Newport-Plassendale Canal) with the underlying polder drainage water network of the Noordwatering Veurne (which includes the Noordvaart or Veurne-Ambachtvaart, the Slijkvaart or Oostvaart, and the Koolhofvaart). The lock has been protected as a monument since 03-03-2015.
