Today this beautiful building is part of the Archbishop's Palace . The buildings are connected by a covered bridge. The Archbishop's Palace is not open to visitors.
The abbots of abbeys and monasteries soon had dwellings built in the walled towns. They can stay there when in town or passing through. Shelters also provide shelter in times of war. Sint-Truiden Abbey Refuge was founded in the 16th century by the Benedictine Abbey of Sint-Truiden. Seen with common sense, because it allows them to keep in touch with the Archbishop of Mechelen.
Starling pots have been built into the graceful tower where starlings build their nests . Until the 19th century, the star was a real delicacy.
