A plaque commemorates that on January 11, 45 an American armored reconnaissance patrol from the 84th Infantry Division met the Scots of Hotton's 51st Highland Division on the heights of Samree.

On January 11, the first troops of the 4th Cavalry Group descended from the Hez de Harzé to La Roche, which they found deserted by the Germans . At the same time they see the Highlanders coming from the other side of the Ourthe.
La Roche is liberated , but the fight continues...the Highlanders will liberate Hives, Hubermont, Mierchamps, Erneuville and Ortho.

The task was to reach Houffalize and link up with Patton's 3rd Army.
