The naming of this small triangular square is related to Benito Mussolini's appreciation for the city's dogged defense during the First World War: in 1922 he donated the Italian war cross and the title "Citta Heroica" to the city of Diksmuide . Hence also several war memorials:
The memorial to the "XII Manitoba Dragoons Canada" with inscription: "XII MANITOBA DRAGOONS CANADA FREED DIKSMUIDE DEN 7 SEPT. 1944".
The memorial in memory of the Breton fallen. A bluestone cross-shaped memorial on a natural stone plinth. A bronze plaque with text: "LA BRETAGNE AUX GLORIEUX MORTS DU 241e RI TOMBES SUR LE SOL DE LA VAILLANT BELGIQUE EN 1940".
A 1997 memorial for the political prisoners of Groot Diksmuide who died in Nazi concentration camps (1940-1945).
4) A 1984 memorial to Maurice Cornet who died in 1945 as a political prisoner in Recklinghausen (Germany). Inscription: "MAY MY LIFE SACRIFICE GIVE FREEDOM PEACE AND JUSTICE FOR ALL FOREVER".
